Photo *Heart* Fridays: Preserving our heritage

Friday, 3 August 2012

When I was walking around the Eastern side of Singapore capturing images for my entry in the Loving my Spot in Singapore blog train, I chanced upon a few rows of shop houses.

Built in modern times, the facade is reminiscent of the Peranakan houses of days gone by... and captures much of tradition while providing the essentials of modern amenities.

A testament and ode to a rich heritage.

“I can only note that the past is beautiful because one never realises an emotion at the time. It expands later, and thus we don't have complete emotions about the present, only about the past.”

    1. That row of shophouses was my MIL's construction company's last project before she retired. Damn expensive to build.

  4. I love wandering down the pavements of these shophouses...and going up and down and up again, those rather haphazard steps. I always feel that the shops housed in this type of buildings have a secret or two to share...heh funny thoughts I know.
