Life is a song. Love is the music.

Tuesday, 9 October 2012

Sometimes when I hear a certain song, it brings back certain memories of an almost forgotten moment in time... it transports me back to a place.
A place where a layer that builds the foundation of my life exists.

Drunken haziness to the tune of "Bizarre Love Triangle".
A stolen dance to "Somebody".
A glance across a crowded room with "The Promise" playing in the background.
Laughter shared in a room throbbing to Barry White and Black Legend.
Tears shed to "Have You Ever Been In Love".

Music has always been a big part of my life. I grew up listening to Sinatra, Cole Porter, Engelbert and Perry Como.

Granny's favourite was "Spanish Eyes".

Is it a wonder then - that I seem to know the lyrics to, and the titles of - old songs that I suddenly come across? Perhaps these songs were stored in the deepest recesses of my young mind back then... only to surface again, a decade or more later, as the mind is jogged by a certain melody.

"If your life had one song accompany it, what would it be?"

Songs of my life started flashing through my mind. How could I possibly choose ONE song for my life's soundtrack?

I believe that life is too big to have just one song. For every song that I know the words to, every song that has been imprinted in my mind, there exists a little spot for it on my life's playlist. Fortunately, there are many songs of various genre to suit the myriad of feelings and emotions accompanying the journey.

The really great thing is that, for all of them,
I know the words.

Music featured highly during my wedding. I chose each song carefully... and our video started with Chopin's Nocturne by Maksim, and ended with Perry Como's Magic Moments.

I walked down the aisle to Julie Rogers' "The Wedding"

One show that never fails to remind me to go cut onions in the kitchen is Dance with my Father (Luther Vandross). Beautiful song.

    1. Thanks!

I love old songs - it's funny how songs can be such a reflection of the state of the world we live in. Songs were so much simpler then! :)
